Celtic central defender Dane Murray has had a horrid time with injuries throughout his young career so far.

The defender has been sidelined for practically the past two years, missing some crucial stages of development.

He returned to the Celtic first-team fold during pre-season, captaining Brendan Rodgers’ side for a period against Ayr United.

Murray has since moved on loan to Queen’s Park, where he has been impressive so far.

Indeed, the defender’s form saw him called up by Scotland under-21s this month, for whom he made his debut against Spain last Friday.

Scot Gemmill’s side fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Tynecastle, but Murray and Co. held their own at times.

The imposing centre-half was sound defensively and will likely start once more versus Malta tonight.

He has got his career back on track after several injury issues.

Murray had numerous problems with his knee but has recently got the all-clear from Celtic’s doctors. It should never bother him again.

“If we are talking about my injuries, we could be here a while,” he said (The Scottish Sun).

“About two years ago I injured my cruciate ligament for the first time and I was out for a year.

“I then came back into training and about a month later I did the same thing to the same knee and I was out for another year.

“I was in a good position at Celtic before that and it wasn’t great to do it twice.

“But the club were great to me and their rehab was excellent. The doctors tell me I shouldn’t have any more problems with the knee. I’ve come back in the best shape I have ever been in.”

Given all he has been through, seeing Murray back out on the pitch enjoying his football is pleasing.

No young player should have to experience what the 21-year-old has, but it will only serve him well in future.

Following his loan at Queen’s, perhaps Murray can return to Celtic and be a useful member of the squad.
