It was last summer when Celtic has Ivan Toney in the building with the striker happy to sign for the club. Read the full story here.

Peter Lawwell couldn’t come to a satisfactory compromise with Peterborough in the end even though the fee was rumoured to be around £6m so he was sent back down the road.

Since then, Ivan signed for Brentford where he’s scored 26 and made 9 assists in 34 league appearances. An incredible return.

Throughout the season myself and other Celtic fans have been playing the ‘what if’ card and using the failure to sign the striker as ammunition against our outgoing CEO.

However, there’s a notable group of fans who won’t let go of the signing that never was. Every time the lad plays Celtic fans seem to be jumping on the stats and highlights of his performances.

Not signing the frontman has been a huge error but we’re over six months down the line. Why are people still obsessing?

There’s as much an argument for Celtic bringing good players down this season as there is for Ivan being a success up here. The way we’ve played over the course of this season has been shocking, and you can be brought down into the mire quite easily when the team and club are in a hole.

Celtic fans need to move on from this failed signing. The man who ultimately said no to the deal is leaving in July, Ivan will be heading to a top half Premier League club and Celtic must make sure the next too striker doesn’t fall from our grasp.

  1. Part of the “obsession” as you call it, relates to the fact that PL brought us Ajeti for a similar price instead of Toney. Ajeti couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo. If we had somebody knocking in the goals for us the way Toney is this season could have turned out differently. Thanks PL.
