CHRIS SUTTON believes that Celtic winger Liel Abada deserves more credit than he gets after he bagged his tenth goal of the season midweek.

With eight league goals, two in the League Cup, the winger’s season has been pretty underrated.

The former Celtic striker has compared the winger to The Rangers’ starman, Ryan Kent. The player has just three goals in 30 games, quite a poor tally all things considered. Yet, for some reason, you’re led to believe that Kent is the best thing to happen since sliced bread!

Sutton was keen to point this out in his Daily Record collum this week, venting his frustrations. He wrote:

“It’s incredible to think Celtic have a wide player who has hit double figures for the season and yet still seems to fly under the radar.

“Liel Abada took his tally to 10 for the campaign the other night against St Mirren and no one really batted an eyelid. Perhaps because everyone is just so used to seeing the winger chipping in with goals so regularly. But the youngster deserves a bit of credit – because his numbers are really spectacular.

“Abada has hit 10 but he’s only actually started 13 games out of 30 this season. You look at the huge amount said and written about Ryan Kent across the city at Rangers. Abada has scored seven more goals this season and created a similar amount as well – yet he’s been on the pitch half the time. That’s the funny thing with the player. He’s involved most weeks in some capacity. He’s spent a lot of time on the bench but tends to get thrown on in the final 30 minutes.”

Abada doesn’t start too many games, but the impact he makes from the bench is second to none. He’s still a young player and is constantly improving, and is only going to get better.

Celtic are in talks to try to tie him down at the club, with contract negotiations ongoing.
