FORMER Celtic target Martin Ødegaard has gone out on loan for the second season running Real Madrid have confirmed.

The little midfielder was constantly linked with Celtic during Ronny Deila’s time as Parkhead manager due to their Stromgodset link. The Norweigan manager famously gave Martin a first team run out at the tender age of 15, such was his talent.

Ødegaard put an end to speculation about his future when he joined the Bernabeu club back in 2016 on a five-year deal.

The Norweigan was quickly put into the Real Madrid reserves Castilla but did make one La Liga appearance for the Galacticos in his time at the club so far.

With no plans for him in the first team, Madrid sent the player out on loan to Heerenveen for 18-months where he got ample game time but perhaps failed to live up to the hype which proceeded him. In total, the player made 43 appearances for the Dutch club – scoring 3 goals and only 5 assists to his name.

Upon returning to Spain this summer, he was advised again to go out on loan by Real Madrid, with Vitesse waiting in the wings to snap the player up on a season long loan.

There’s still plenty of time for Martin to make his mark in European football but the early hype seems to have damaged his progress somewhat.

It’s crazy to think this lad is only 19 and some have written him off already. There is still plenty to come from the young man and he could shine for Vitesse this season.

There was a time when Celtic weren’t blessed with a plethora of attacking midfield talent under Ronny Deila and the wee man would have fit in well. Maybe one day!
