According to Sports Witness, Dutch winger Anco Jansen was on the brink of signing for Celtic back in 2013 – only for the deal to collapse last minute.

Jansen was playing for Veendam at the time but was sounded out by Neil Lennon and his scouting team as a player they would very much want.

Speaking about the move, Jansen still seems bitter about the opportunity falling through and no wonder!

“I was already in Glasgow. That’s a black chapter of my football career. It was taken away from me. I can still get very angry about it,” Jansen Told SoccerNews.

This may seem like ancient history and not very relevant at all but it’s worth noting during the same period Celtic would go on and sign winger Derk Boerrigter instead from Ajax.

The midfielder would start the first 15 minutes of his Celtic career very well before getting injured and then getting injured, and then getting fit and just as he looks like he’s about to get a game, he gets injured! You get the picture.

Derk Boerrigter’s signing will go down as perhaps one of the worst in the clubs history.

We don’t know a lot about Jansen but he would have had to have two broken left feet for him to be any worse than Derk’s signing.

There is no information on why the deal fell through – maybe it was down to Derk signing instead.

If so, Celtic fans should be as annoyed as Jansen.

Jansen, 29, now plays for FC Emmen in Eredivisie.
