Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston has started the season terrifically.

The Canadian was relatively inconsistent at times last term but has truly kicked on in the early stages of the new campaign.

Johnston set up Daizen Maeda for the opener in Sunday’s Glasgow derby a week after bagging his third goal for the club away at St. Mirren.

Now on international duty with his country, Canada, the 25-year-old has been talking about all things Celtic.

He recently revealed how his debut at Ibrox in January of last year came completely unexpected and that his inclusion to the starting eleven even caused some tension with his new teammates at the time.

Johnston signed for Celtic a few weeks prior, with ex-Hoops midfielder Victor Wanyama playing a substantial role in the move.

The Kenyan played with the defender at CF Montreal and was convinced Johnston was the perfect fit for Celtic.

Recently speaking on ‘Footy Prime The Podcast’, the full-back revealed all.

“Victor was unbelievable”, said Johnston.

He knew my personality. That’s something I learned, the people who succeed at Celtic and these clubs need to have a big personality.

“I think that he knew deep down that I was the perfect fit for that.

“When I got his badge of ‘Yeah, he’s the right man for it, you’re the right guy to go there’, that was exciting.”

Wanyama spent two successful years with Celtic before moving to English Premier League outfit Southampton in 2013.

He soon earned a transfer to Spurs but has been playing out in the MLS for the past four years.

Perhaps the 33-year-old can help Celtic uncover some more gems from America before he hangs up his boots.
