Celtic bowed out of the Sydney Cup with a penalty shootout loss to Premier League side Everton.

The bhoys dominated the game but couldn’t find the back of the net – sound familiar?

We got a friendly, low pressure penalty shootout st the end of the game for the fans inside the stadium.

The first Hoops player to step up was Gorgios Giakoumakis, and well, he blooterd the ball over the bar.

If there’s one take away from the Sydney Cup, Giakoumakis should not be taking penalties. The big man can be deadly with one touch finishes in the box, but after missing against Livingston twice now and then seeing his effort against Everton, penalties aren’t his thing.

It’s a strange one, when the striker was playing in the Dutch league, he was known for his penalty scoring prowess. At Celtic; it appears to have deserted the big Greek.

Celtic got a lot of money for participating in the Sydney Cup, if we learn a lesson along the way, great!

The bhoys will be back in competitive action in December when they head to Aberdeen on the 17th. Until then, they have a friendly against Rennes and a training camp in Portugal. Maybe they should practice penalties.

  1. Strikers should be practicing shooting until they get the hang of it. If they don’t they are not good enough, get rid.
