Edouard gets a hard time of it by pundits and even by some Celtic fans when it comes to his scoring ability.

We have had Chris Sutton continually telling us the striker must do more, and Celtic fans calling him lazy. Fans mistake the player’s laid back manner as being somehow lazy, Moussa Dembele was tarred with the same brush at times.

John Hartson broke from this trend and actually praised the player. Not only has Edouard scored goals for Celtic but he’s scored very important goals.

The Frenchman grabbed the winner against the Ibrox club when Celtic were down to 10 men.

What about his double as Celtic beat the same team 5-0 to clinch seven in a row?

This season, Dembele has had his problems with injury, but when Celtic have needed a goal and a cool head, the Frenchman has been there.

The 4-3 Aberdeen game when a less than fully fit Edouard came on and scored. His goals at Tynecastle and Dens Park lately absolutely pivotal in Celtic’s season.

While he isn’t the finished article, the striker continues to show his worth to the team in his goals and his link-up play.

Hartson told Sunsport the player deserves credit “Edouard is a work in progress and he can develop more, especially in his hold-up play.

“When he gets in front of goal he finishes. But he can be more physical.

“He is some size. I walked past him at Lennoxtown a few weeks back and he towers over me.

“He’s a big strapping lad and I have been impressed.

“Edouard can get better and I am sure he will. The physical side is an art and you have to learn how to pin defenders.”
