Kieran Tierney’s homecoming to Celtic has already got supporters dreaming of what lies ahead. After six years away, the Scotland international is back at the Hoops and ready to kick off the next chapter of his career.

One man who knows Tierney well from his first spell at the club is Erik Sviatchenko. The Danish defender played alongside Tierney during his early days in the first team and has kept in touch with him ever since.

Following Tierney’s return, Sviatchenko believes his former team-mate is not only ready to make an impact again but also sees him as a natural leader for the future. The pair exchanged messages recently, with Tierney expressing just how much he wanted to come back to Glasgow.

Sviatchenko reckons Tierney’s leadership credentials will come into sharp focus as time goes on, even tipping him as a future Celtic captain once Callum McGregor steps away.

He said: (RecordSport), “I was actually surprised that it has been six years since he left Celtic. He has done well, but he’s just been staggered with injury. I don’t know how many games he’s played for Arsenal. But if you look at the numbers, it should have been like 350 games.

“I think the step for Kieran right now is incredible. I texted with him and he said, ‘I’m ready to go home’. He’s done well in the Premier League and now he’s ready to come home and be that next generation of Celtic legends.

“He has the potential. He already is a legend in growth. And the fans adore him. You always knew what you would get from him, 100 per cent, but still a lot of great qualities on the ball.

“Technical-wise, he can play as a left-back, he can play as a centre-back, he can play in the three-back line. He’s a utility player in that sense.

“And then one day when Callum McGregor decides it’s time to retire, there is a captain on that line for Kieran Tierney. That’s kind of the script, I would say.”

Tierney’s return under Brendan Rodgers gives Celtic added depth and experience heading into the new campaign. His versatility across the backline is expected to be a key asset as the club juggles domestic and European demands.

The defender’s natural drive and connection to the club have always made him a standout figure for the support. Now, with years of experience at the highest level, he returns with even more to offer.

Injury troubles may have slowed his progress in England, but back at Celtic, Tierney will be given the chance to regain his rhythm in a familiar environment. The move also puts him in a strong position to take on even greater responsibility in the years ahead.

Rodgers will be hoping Tierney can stay fit and play a major part in Celtic’s push for further success both in the league and on the European stage.
