Celtic return to action this evening as they travel to Dingwall to take on Ross County in the Premier Sports Cup.

The Hoops have already made the journey north already this season on league duty but this game will prove as much of a test.

In recent years, the League Cup has proved to be a very successful tournament for Celtic with the club having won the competition six times in the past eight years.

It could be said that this evenings match is Celtic’s first game in defence of the old trophy but many football managers don’t always subscribe to that idea as a new season brings new challenges and opportunities.

Ange Postecoglou completed a double last year having won the League Cup before the early winter break.

It will be a trophy that he and many new additions to the club last season hold fondly as it was their first taste of silverware at Celtic.

Celtic dispatched Hearts, Raith Rovers and St Johnstone on their route to the final last year before a tough test against Hibs in the final.

The cup win after two goals from Kyogo Furuhashi delivered real belief to the Celtic faithful and delivered back success at the first time of asking under Ange.

Due to the World Cup, the final has been moved to February 2023 but the trophy is still a good chance to lay down a marker for the final few months of the domestic campaign and may be a chance for the manager to rotate the squad.
