The focus will be on Steven Gerrard’s men in the run up to the Glasgow Derby League Cup Final in December with the narrative being Gers pursuit of a major trophy.

The story which is more than likely to be spun is The Rangers side being hungry for success against a team who might be a little bit bloated gobbling up trophies and medals – I wouldn’t be so sure.

Celtic have won everything in front of them domestically for three years and that could create a certain type of apathy, this is where two things come into play which would combat that being the case on the day.

  1. Neil Lennon has NEVER won the League Cup as a manager.
  2. There are enough players in this current squad who will be chasing their first Celtic trophy.

It’s crazy to think Neil Lennon has never lifted the trophy as Celtic boss during his first spell – the closest the manager got was the cup final where Kilmarnock’s dogged determination seen them grab a late winner and take the trophy away from Lennon’s grasp. The Celtic manager will want to add this trophy to his managerial collection.

As for the players – you have Bolingoli, Jullien, Elyounoussi and even Forster who will be desperate to get that winning feeling and collect their medal.

There will be no apathy from the likes of Edouard and Brown either who are just as determined as they were in previous seasons to add to their trophy tally.
