Despite the disappointment of conceding seven goals against Borussia Dortmund, Kasper Schmeichel stands out as a Celtic player who can take some pride in his performance.
The experienced goalkeeper showcased his determination and resilience throughout the match, making several crucial saves that prevented the score line from being even more lopsided.
His shot-stopping ability and quick reflexes were tested throughout the game, and by his own incredibly high standards, he will certainly be disappointed with the score line.
However, Kasper Schmeichel was clearly the one Celtic player who, at the very least, put in a competent display.
While the floodgates opened in the first half, the Danish goalkeeper made a series of impressive saves.
His performance was a testament to his character and experience, showing that even in tough circumstances, he maintained his professionalism and commitment to the team.
His experience helped him maintain focus, but it was a disappointing night in the Champions League for Celtic, leaving plenty for Brendan Rodgers and the squad to ponder.
Schmeichel is likely to be vocal in the dressing room after the game, urging his teammates to learn from the mistakes made and to refocus as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
Despite the heavy defeat, there are lessons to be learned, and the veteran goalkeeper will be key in rallying the squad to ensure they bounce back stronger on Sunday against Ross County in Dingwall.
The Midfield was horrendous. McGregor, Engels & Bernardo (Bernardo who started ok first 10 mins.) Midfield was invisible wresulting in wave after wave of attacks.
Thought to much of ref and staying on the pitch fearfull of poor tacke
That’s because they are not elite players, they’re domestically good at Scottish league level but lightyears inferior to the kind of talent Dortmund has at its disposal. That was embarrassing tonight, really embarrassing.
It’s Groundhog day!
Anyone really surprised? We love our club and get sucked into the hype but really anyone knows this is the Rodgers way. No plan B (Ange is the same.)
We will never get anywhere in Europe if we build teams just to look good in the SPFL.
If we had a couple of solid centre halves, like we did with van dijk and Denayer, and a solid defensive mid with good distribution that would be a start.
You have to build a defence that are good enough to frustrate these big money teams and then hit them with super fast attacks with Kuhn Maeda and Kyogo, then things could be different.
Dortmund got hammered by Stuttgart a few weeks back, they sit 8th in the German league.
Guess that puts us at the level of a second or third division team.
I hope the board is smarter in building from the manager down when Rodgers runs to West Ham or Tottenham in comming months.
The Celtic way is something we parrot and laud but really since the 70s , (with a small exception for the O Neil years) the Celtic way means opening up against team with 10x our wage bill.
Forwards win games, defences win championships. Until the board realises that, the long suffering fans are going to keep feeling this horrible hollowness in our guts the morning after.
The naivety shown by the manager and the players was horrendous.
Time after time after time, we pressed with 6 players and time after time after time, Dortmund made one long pass to Adeyemi, and it was 4v3 or 3v2.
It didn’t help matters that our passing was also horrendous.
It’s way over time for a change of tactics in these games
