He believes they have improved in almost every area, and are on track to beat the points and goals records set by Rodgers side in 201617.

To do this, the Celtic side must win their remaining four games, including the match at Ibrox.

The former midfielder has praised Postecoglou‘s recruitment skills and his ability to build a successful team, and believes that retaining him should be the top priority for Celtic this summer.

The rumour mill is already in full swing, with a couple of players linked to a Hoops exit, while Celtic are reportedly eyeing up a few payers.

As quoted by Daily Mail, Kris Commons said:

“Back at the start of the season, I remember some people having doubts over whether or not Celtic would be able to follow what they did last year. There seemed to be some suggestion that they might suffer some sort of ‘second-season syndrome’ under Postecoglou.

“Some people also felt that Rangers would be much closer to challenging them after they came off the back of a Europa League final last term.

“But Postecoglou and his players have smashed it out of the park. Not only have they followed last season’s title win and backed it up, they’ve actually improved in near enough every area.

“Just a few years ago, I reckon a lot of Celtic fans would have marvelled at the football played by Brendan Rodgers’ side and felt like they might never see the like again.

Rodgers’ Invincibles racked up 106 points and scored 106 goals. But if Postecoglou’s side win their remaining four games, they will actually beat that total by reaching 107 points.

“They will also beat the goals tally of Rodgers’ team given that they are already on 105 with four games still to play.

“I’ve been banging this drum all season. I genuinely believe this is actually a better and more exciting team than we saw under Rodgers – and that’s a high benchmark to beat.

Postecoglou has now established himself as the single most important person at the football club. He is a manager who is revered by his players and worshipped by the fans.

“Even if Celtic were to lose one or two key players this summer, I honestly don’t think it would be the end of the world. Postecoglou would find a way to replace them. His recruitment skills and contacts, as well as his eye for a player, are second to none.

“The only man in the building whom Celtic can’t afford to lose this summer is the manager himself. He’s started building something special and I sincerely hope he sees it through.”

The talk of Abada going doesn’t install fear into Celtic fans because we know that Ange Postecoglou will bring someone in who’s just as good or better.
