REPORTS broke this morning Celtic are supposedly looking at German right-back Jeremy Toljan. The defender is out of favour at Dortmund after a promising start to his career with the Bundesliga side.

Jeremy has not kicked a ball for Dortmund this season, and the manager doesn’t have any plans for the player. This has given credence to the reports Celtic are looking into the possibility of bringing Jeremy to Celtic Park.

But who is Jeremy and why is he surplus to requirements?

The defender has made 193 appearances in his career so far, starting his youth career out at Stuttgart before being transferred to Hoffenheim where Jeremy went on to make the first team. After impressing for Hoffenheim, Dortmund came calling and paid in the region of £6million for the defender. He has played in the Champions League for the Bundesliga side and made 23 appearances all in for Dortmund.

FanSided commented on the player being ‘very unlucky’ during his time at Dortmund so far and how circumstances have meant he’s never got a second chance with the German club.

Oliver Campo wrote back in 2018: “I believe under the right coach, Toljan can prove to be an exceptional full back.”

The writer also mentioned the former Dortmund bosses Peter Bosz and Peter Stöger did not know how to use Jeremy effectively and current boss Lucien Favre has just outright overlooked him.

Could the player be revived under Brendan Rodgers?
