Chris Sutton has been critical of Odsonne Edouard since the player became Celtic’s number one striker. The BT commentator has spoken live on air about how Eddy had to do more in the side even though he was coming up with some very important goals.

Edouard scored a brace in the cup final last season to ensure victory and a treble treble. Before that, Eddy was scoring a goal against Steven Gerrard’s men when it really mattered. His last gasp goal against Hearts at Tynecastle 24 hours after Brendan Rodgers jumped shipped as important as they come. Despite all these moments and more, Chris has been critical of the Frenchman, up until the last few weeks.

Another goal at Ibrox followed up by four goals for his country in two games appears to have tipped the scale in Eddy’s favour when it comes the former Celtic striker. While we’re happy the player is getting the credit he deserves, Chris is very late to the party.

Writing for his RecordSport column, Chris said:

Odsonne Edouard is building his burgeoning reputation with every outing.

If I had any advice for Celtic fans, it would be to enjoy this lad while he’s here because it isn’t going to be for much longer.

Edouard has followed Moussa Dembele’s path by sparking at Parkhead and going into the France Under-21 set-up to do the same.

Dembele ended up heading out of the door for big money and Edouard is going to be doing the same very soon. He really is developing into the real deal.

Consistency has also been a factor for me.

But, in terms of where he is at this stage of his career, he is really going places and the last fortnight have just heightened his stock both in Scotland and back in France.
