According to reports overnight, the real reason James McFadden and Callum McGregor got into it was not because they were having a go at each other but instead the Scotland Captain was angered by Manchester United star Scot McTominay who sprinted up the tunnel at full time instead of going to the away support to thank them for taking the journey.

SunSport revealed the Celtic midfielder who was already massively frustrated watched his team-mate disregard everyone else to get out of dodge rather than face the music. This had McGregor in a rage when James McFadden got in his way and the pair appeared to butt heads before McGregor pushed the former player and walked away.

Scotland were awful, embarrassing and today Alex McLeish’s job should be subject to a heavy review. Callum took the captains armband for the game and made sure he went over to the Scotland fans to throw his hands up at the shocking result. He also went out to be interviewed by the media after the game even though he would have wanted the ground to swallow him up.

When he did speak to Sky Sports he was asked about the McFadden incident and while Callum didn’t deny it, he played it down:

“It was massive frustration.

“You come away, you want to start the campaign well but you’ve got to play better than that if you want to grab points.”
