Efe Ambrose took one for the team yesterday when Hearts tried to deliver the ultimate sucker punch at the end of a game where Celtic dominated.

The defender who has been out of favour with Ronny Deila for sometime has started the last few games for Celtic at centre back and has proven himself to be reliable. Many know  and refer to Efe Ambrose as ‘bomb scare’ but in these games alongside Dedryk Boyata the player has look assured, composed and his distribution has been good overall.

Which begs the question, is this the real Efe Ambrose?

The one we got decent glimpses of pre-Juventus game before he was rushed back from International duty to try and help negotiate a tie with the Italians.

When Efe has played in the recent past it has been at right back where he looks uncomfortable at times, even giving away a penalty earlier in the season in that position.

Yesterday against Hearts again he was composed and helped the team out greatly. As Hearts ran through on goal at the death he knew what he was doing and happily took one for the team. Rarely does a player get clapped as he’s walking off the pitch after seeing red, but that’s exactly what happened.

It’s a shame that the Nigerian has started to show real form and will miss the next game through suspension. Can he come back after his one-match-ban and cement his place at centre back. Are we witnessing the re-birth of Efe Ambrose at Celtic or will his form turn out to be a flash in the pan?
