When Brendan Rodgers signed Scott Bain it didn’t exactly break the internet. It felt like he was signing a 2nd or 3rd backup keeper that would play second fiddle to Craig Gordon. Bain has moved from the “second choice”, to “equally as good” all the way up to “can’t be dropped” all in a matter of weeks.
Clean sheets to a keeper are what goals are to a striker. Nobody can argue with a keepers form if he is keeping clean sheets. Bain has kept a few clean sheets in the last few months. In fact, the shot-stopper has not conceded a goal in 900 minutes. (continues below…)
Granted he has not played consecutively for all those minutes but it is an impressive record all the same. He has managed to keep five clean sheets in a row so far in 2019. The last time Bain managed to pick the ball out of the net was on Saturday the 18th of August 2018. That was a 3-1 win for Celtic away to Patrick in the league cup. Since then he displays look something like this..
SLC 26-09-2018. St.Johnstone 0 : 1 Celtic
SLC 28-10-2018 Hearts 0 : 3 Celtic
SPFL 11-11-2018 Livingston 0 : 0 Celtic
SLC 02-12-2018 Celtic 1 : 0 Aberdeen
SPFL 22-12-2018 Celtic 3 : 0 Dundee FC
SC 19-01-2019 Celtic 3 – 0 Airdrieonians
SPFL 23-01-2019 Celtic 4 : 0 St. Mirren
SPFL 26-01-2019 Celtic 3 : 0 Hamilton Academical
SPFL 30-01-2019 Celtic 2 : 0 St.Johnstone
SPFL 03-02-2019 St.Johnstone 0 : 2 Celtic
Brendan Rodgers was using Bain for just cup competitions for a large part of this campaign. After a dodgy Ibrox display with his feet rather than his hands, Craig Gordon has had to move over for Bain. The 27-year-old hasn’t disappointed either and long may it continue.
