Celtic went crashing out of the Champions League on Wednesday night in a one-off knockout fixture. But there’s a worrying picture emerging when Celtic come up against a well-drilled and organised team.

In three games where we’ve faced stiff competition happy to sit and frustrate, we’ve had whopping 66 shots in total and only managed three goals. That’s a 4.5% success rate in front of goal for Neil Lennon’s side.

This was brought to our attention by a Celtic fan on social media after picking over the bones of the Champions League exit.

It paints a picture of Celtic reducing themselves to speculative shots and being very wasteful with their chances. It’s not been good enough and something had to give.

We had enough chances on Wednesday night to win the game but wastefulness has cost us dearly. Going into most games this season in the SPFL, Celtic are going to come up against teams who are set up not to lose, we need to find an answer to those teams or more points dropped will be inevitable.
