Talk around Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley has surfaced again as Celtic continue their search for a permanent manager.

It’s clear why his name comes up. He’s built a winning side in Dublin, he’s worked under Dermot Desmond and he’s lifted trophy after trophy. But when you look at the full picture, Bradley taking the Celtic job remains a long shot.

Bradley’s record is strong. Five league titles with Rovers, multiple cups and a run of individual awards that speaks for itself. His sides dominate the ball, press high and have a clear identity. That always gets noticed. Add in the fact Desmond holds stakes in both clubs and the dots get joined quickly, especially when Celtic have signed players like Liam Scales and Johnny Kenny from Rovers in recent years.

Even with those links, it’s not a natural fit. Celtic are trying to reshape their entire football department and the next manager needs European experience and the ability to deal with the pressure that comes with the job.

Bradley has dominated the League of Ireland, but stepping straight into the Celtic role would be a huge jump. Desmond’s involvement at both clubs actually works the other way. If anything, it keeps things cleaner. Bradley stays where he’s thriving and Celtic look elsewhere for a proven figure who fits the scale of the rebuild.

Celtic are casting their net wide for someone who can walk into Lennoxtown and take control from day one. Bradley is well-regarded but hasn’t managed at the level Celtic operate at, and the timing makes it even less likely. The club need a manager who can hit the European stage running and deal with the demands that come with it.

Bradley will keep winning with Shamrock Rovers and his reputation will keep growing, but Celtic are looking for experience that matches the size of their next step. The connection through Desmond and past transfers won’t change that.
