Former Celtic striker John Hartson has cast doubt on Luis Palma’s future at the club, suggesting the Honduran winger could be set for a January departure.

With recent reports linking the 24-year-old with a move to MLS or Europe, and his absence from Brendan Rodgers’ last three SPFL matchday squads, speculation is mounting over his potential exit.

Speaking on Go Radio, Hartson expressed his belief that Celtic might be ready to part ways with Palma if the right offer comes along:

“If Palma goes they will certainly want to get another one in over on that left-hand side. It is looking like the writing is on the wall for Palma at Celtic.

“It’s in the papers every other day that he is not happy and his dad has been quoted saying this and that. I just feel that if they get the right type of offer in January, I think they might act on that.

“I don’t think he’s done enough either. I think he has played in fits and starts. Sometimes he likes to play and does something really, really special and you think ‘Wow he’s back and is a good player, take it onto the next game’.”

Palma joined Celtic with high expectations but has struggled to make a sustained impact.

He did have that purple patch last year, scoring and assisting both domestically and in Europe, but since the turn of the year has struggled for form.

His situation appears increasingly precarious as Rodgers continues to rotate his squad, and with the January window fast approaching, Celtic may look to cash in if they find a suitable replacement.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Celtic will be in the market for a left-winger, suggesting that the club are expecting the Honduran’s exit.

He’s shown glimpses of quality at the Hoops but just hasn’t been able to perform consistently in the green and white which is a real shame.
