Former Celtic striker Frankie McAvennie has hailed Celtic’s current top striker Odsonne Edouard. The player turned pundit believes the Frenchman is only going to get better, but it’s unlikely it will be in front of the Celtic fans when he reaches his peak years.

Macca doesn’t believe Celtic have anything to worry about and claimed knowing Peter Lawwell the player will have clauses in his contract which mean Celtic will be getting paid far beyond any transfer fee we do get for him when the time comes.

“The scary thing for Scottish football is it also means Edouard can only get better. He’s only a boy. They reckon strikers don’t peak until they’re 25 or 26. So Celtic, as a club, might not see the best of him.” Macca told SunSport.

“But we’ll get some of the best of him because, knowing the Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, there will be clauses in his contract. So no matter how good he gets, we’ll be getting paid all the way down the line.

“But I do think Edouard is that good. It looks like he can be incredible for Celtic in the future. I never thought they would find another Dembele, but for £9million they have. It’s a snip.”

Celtic fans are desperate to see Eddy stay for at least another season with many knowing this summer could be the tipping point. Celtic have always put clauses in their players contracts to make sure they get the very best deal when the time comes.

The club have made some good money from it in the past. It’s all about weighing up the financials against what we need on the field and what the player wants. Right now, Celtic would have a good chance of making the Champions League group stage if they kept the nucleus of this squad together and win the league. Sell our prized asset and we’re not so sure.
