Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will address the media later today ahead of his side’s Scottish Cup semi-final tie with Aberdeen on Sunday.
It will be the gaffer’s first game in charge at Hampden since the 2018 League Cup final where he masterminded a 1-0 over the Dons. A similar result would be welcomed by the Hoops’ faithful tomorrow.
In his press conference today, the boss will preview the game, but one assumes that won’t be the sole topic of discussion. As a result, here are three key points for Rodgers to address.
Title Twists
Since the Celts won 3-0 at home to St. Mirren last Saturday, there have been a fair few twists in the title race.
Rangers lost 3-2 in Dingwall before faltering to a goalless draw at Dens Park on Wednesday meaning the Bhoys are now three points clear at the top of the table with five games to go.
Quietly, Rodgers will be encouraged by such results but in front of the media, he will likely remain tight-lipped. Let’s wait and see what he says later.
Centre-half Situation
Maik Nawrocki came in for Liam Scales last weekend and the Polish defender didn’t look out of place.
Rodgers, however, has favoured Scales throughout the campaign and revealed after the St. Mirren game that his injury is not too serious and that hopefully, he’ll be okay.
A further update on his status would be welcomed, but it would also be intriguing to hear the manager’s thoughts on the overall predicament at the heart of defence because last Saturday, Nawrocki did himself proud.
Split Fixtures Verdict
The SPFL announced the all-important split fixtures on Tuesday, with Celtic set to travel to Dundee and Rugby Park while taking on Hearts, Rangers, and St. Mirren at home.
Rodgers claimed last week that the Hoops come alive at this point in the season, but they face some difficult challenges ahead.
