Three SPFL Pre-Contract Deals Celtic Could Target In January

As we slowly approach the January transfer window, many Celtic fans will be hoping that the club is already working around making some deals happen.

There have been some positive quotes from Ange Postecoglou, suggesting that plans are underway for the winter window.

With that in mind, the Daily Record cited some possible pre-contract options that will be available to talk to other clubs within the next few months. Here are a few that Celtic could look to pick up.

Benjamin Siegrist – Dundee United

The Dundee United goalkeeper has been linked with a move to the Hoops on a few occasions in the last 12 months, with the keeper troubles we faced. It has also been suggested that scouts have watched the Swiss stopper.

Joe Hart looks to have the number one spot secured, and rightly so with his performances during the early stages of his Celtic career.

However, I’m not sure how much faith Ange might have in Scott Bain or Vasilas Barkas for backup. So with Siegrist’s contract coming to an end next summer, it is a possibility that Celtic could make a move to bring him to the club on a free.

Jamie McGrath – St Mirren

Midfield has been a bit of a problematic issue for Postecoglou’s side this campaign, with the former Socceroos boss not having many options to turn to.

It was a bit of a surprise to some to see the midfielder, who scored 17 goals last season, remain with the Paisley side, who held off a last-minute bid from Hibs.

Jim Goodwin has admitted it is highly likely that McGrath will leave the club after the Buddies offered him a ‘record deal’ to sign fresh terms with the club.

Could he be an option that Ange potentially turns to by either signing him up for next season or even earlier in order to help out the midfield issues we have faced?

John Souttar – Hearts

The Scotland international central defender has been one of Hearts more impressive young players since his move to the capital from Dundee United during some problematic spells for the club.

At the same time, he has faced a couple of severe injury problems that have seen him miss out on months of action, which is probably how he finds himself in this contract situation with his current deal due to expire in the summer.

The 25-year old has returned to the side and become a mainstay in Robbie Neilson’s team, currently sitting in 2nd place.

It would be a big blow for the Tynecastle side to lose Souttar, especially on a free deal, but it could be something that Celtic look to capitalise on in January.
