The move for Timothy Weah has come out of nowhere from Celtic but as the deal looks increasingly likely to happen there are some fans who are thankful the scouting system is being a bit more exhaustive to bring in top young talent.

But how much has Celtic’s scouting system done with regards to looking at the 18-year-old Weah and how did he end up on the Bhoy’s radar?

It turns out the player could have been picked up, not by the scouts but by the youth team setup.

Timothy Weah was part of the youth side PSG brought to Glasgow to play in the UEFA Youth League back last year when Celtic’s first team were participating in the Champions League.

That day Celtic’s developmental squad were beaten 3-2 by PS, and who was the winning goal scorer? You guessed it, Timothy Weah.

Goals from Regan Hendry and Jack Aitchison were not enough on the day in Dumbarton for Celtic to get the win. The bhoys twice took the lead, but two goals in five minutes by the French side won the game.

Celtic’s youngsters came third in the group, below both Bayern Munich and PSG as did the first team.

It’s very likely Celtic could have been keeping tabs on the young striker’s development since then.

Would this be another signing without proper help from our head scout, Lee Congerton?
