TAM MCMANUS has used his Football Scotland column to suggest the Ibrox club are in pole position to win the Premiership this term because they have made more signings than Celtic – no seriously.

The former footballer cites noises coming out of Ibrox about their on-loan striker and calls the signing of a Swedish defender as ‘shrewd’. At this point, we’d love to know how many games Tam has followed Helander to make such an astute statement.

It’s the sort of pre-season or January break drivel we get every single year and you can’t blame Celtic fans for rolling their eyes at this stuff. The Record had the Ibrox club down as winners of last years league when they brought in Davis and Defoe. They couldn’t even win it after Celtic were sent into disarray by their manager jumping ship.

McManus believes Celtic have time to ‘turn it around’ by signing players of quality in the next month. Of course Celtic need to strengthen certain positions, it’s no secret, but to base your early prediction on how many players a team has brought in, rather than what quality they may possess typifies Scottish pundits.

It’s easier to get deals done for players nobody really wants.

By the end of the transfer window, Celtic will have strengthened more and then we can look at the lay of the land. If we’re going by Tam’s standards then all we have to do is sign any three or four players and that should put us over the top.

  1. The way rangers are set up are made for more goals to be scored as they play with 5 in attack and have time to regroup in defence if you play a slow build up against them the y can man mark any striker with three defenders at will

  2. I agree but they are better than they were. This the strongest they have been in their History. Are we as strong? Is Jullien any better than Boyata? Is Boli going to be an adequate replacement for KT? Are we covered in attack? What about a right back? The players linked to us are very underwhelming. The guy from Huddersfield was hopeless last season, completely out of his depth. Is the guy from Sheffield Utd any good or the fella from Brentford? I haven’t got a clue but they appear to be cheap fillers.

  3. My concern at Celtic signings is exactly that John – We aren’t yet the finished article , but I’m worried that we aren’t going to really get the squad at full tilt for this monumental season coming up. A total overhaul was needed in defence ,that’s obvious , back up to all defensive positions is a must – isn’t it ?
The defence really needs to be stronger this season – so far Boli looks good going forward – I just hope he’s up to a battle. Jullien looks like Van Dyk 2 – but if Tierney leaves its still fragile at LB – Hayes isn’t the replacement full back we need – tries 100%, but his strength in defence is questionable. but I’d like to see us shut the door at the back – we’re so busy going forward for most of our games that it’s panic buttons if a team rallies forward , ( shown at ibrox x 2)We we’re kicked punched and bullied at ibrox twice last season , is it going to be the same again this season ? – Are we sure we’ve got the steel in the team to fight our corner? We’re at their place in September and I’d bet they’re winding up for it right now – Come on Celtic board – give us quality and give us confidence.
