TOM ROGIC

Australian attacker Tom Rogic has a penchant for scoring important, match-winning goals for Celtic, perhaps none more so than the winner in the 2017 Scottish Cup final which secured the Invincibles Treble.

Signed from A-League outfit Central Coast Mariners by Neil Lennon in January, 2013, the then 20-year-old made his debut in a 3-1 away win over Inverness Caley Thistle on February 2. Besides a half-season loan to Melbourne Victory, the player known affectionately as The Wizard of Aus, is one of the club’s longest-serving stars, and has now made over 200 appearances and has scored 40 goals in green and white going into the 2021/22 season.

Tom Rogic has a penchant for scoring important, match-winning goals for Celtic.

Rogic also played a key role in the club’s unprecedented and historic Double Treble feat of 2017/18 – scoring the fourth of five against city rivals Rangers to clinch the league at Paradise – and, while injured during the final stretch of the Treble Treble trail last year, was instrumental from the start of the campaign until the winter break.

Aside from the impressive run of titles, the Australian internationalist has also helped the Hoops win five Scottish Cups and four League Cups.

In May 2018, Rogic signed a five-year contract extension, which will see him remain at Paradise until the summer of 2023.

COUNTRY BHOY
Tom Rogic made his international debut as a second-half substitute in a 2-1 friendly win over South Korea on November 14, 2012. Since then, a string of goalscoring Man of the Match outings for Australia have earned him a place in the Socceroos’ Confederations Cup 2017 squad, the World Cup 2018 and the AFC Asian Cup in 2019. During the latter, the Hoops midfielder was named in the competition’s All-Star Squad, despite their quarter-finals exit and Rogic’s own injury mid-tournament. At the start of the 2021/22 season, Rogic was approaching 50 caps for his country, and, of course, a batch of those Aussie internationals came under Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou, when he was in charge of the national side between 2013 and 2017.

“That Scottish Cup final goal was a pretty special moment. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
