It has been confirmed today that Tom Rogic has joined English Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

The former Australian international left Celtic in the summer but has since went months without a club.

Many Celtic fans may be wondering why Rogic decided to leave Celtic Park for the Hawthorns but Rogic has given an insight into his decision making.

It was expected that Rogic would make a return closer to his homeland but he has admitted that he turned down approaches from Indonesia and the A-League.

He will join up with former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce at Albion and will be hoping to stake a claim to be selected for Australia’s World Cup squad in November.

There was even a suggestion that Rogic may quit the game altogether but all that speculation about the 29-year olds future can now be quashed with his future being decided.

“I heard about the club’s interest in me about a week ago. I spoke with the manager, who seems like a really good guy, and I spoke with my agent and here we are. I was looking for a change of scenery and a fresh challenge. I didn’t just want to rush into anything”, said Rogic speaking to the West Brom website.

“I have a lot of fond memories from my time at Celtic and I was fortunate to have the perfect send off there.

“It was important for me to take my time and make sure my next club was the right club. I had some time to reflect and I now feel refreshed and re-energised and excited about the future. I’m really looking forward to getting started at Albion. It’s fair to say the team hasn’t got the results the performances have warranted so far this season. I know that the manager and the boys are looking to change that as quickly as possible.”

Reflection may have made the former Hoops midfielder feel that he was best to pursue his career in the UK although West Brom may just be the perfect fit to get some game time before the World Cup.

How the 29-year olds career unfolds is yet to be decided but many will hope that it works out for Rogic down south.
