Tomas Cvancara is the name on many Celtic supporters lips tonight, with news coming out about a potential move to Parkhead.
Advanced talks with Borussia Mönchengladbach continue, with personal terms agreed and discussions ongoing between the clubs over a loan deal with an option to buy.
As part of that picture, it is worth clarifying how Cvancara reached this point.
The Czech striker’s recent loan spell in Turkey did not end for tactical or footballing reasons alone.
In December, German journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Cvancara had terminated the loan himself due to unpaid wages. That decision was later reported by OneFootball, confirming the player had returned early to Mönchengladbach after Antalyaspor failed to meet its contractual obligations.

There were footballing challenges during the spell. Cvancara struggled with injuries and never built sustained momentum, scoring once in 11 Süper Lig appearances. But the decisive factor in his exit was not form or selection, it was a breakdown off the pitch.
It explains why Mönchengladbach are now open to a temporary move and why the player himself is prepared to reset quickly elsewhere.
Cvancara is not a fringe profile. He arrived in the Bundesliga for decent money from Slavia Prague but things haven’t panned out for him in Germany.
Celtic’s interest fits neatly into where he now stands. He is a player coming off an unsettled period, looking for stability and minutes, while Celtic are in urgent need of a forward after failing to address the position in the summer and again at the start of this window.
A loan lowers the immediate risk for Celtic while offering a pathway if the move works. It also continues a January shaped by short-term solutions, with Julián Araujo already in the squad on loan from Bournemouth.

Supporters will draw their own conclusions from that.
What is clear is that Cvancara’s situation is not one of a player discarded lightly or lacking ambition. He left Turkey because contractual terms were not honoured, returned to Germany, and is now in talks over a move that could bring him to Celtic Park within days.
For a club still searching for goals, and for supporters desperate for action rather than process, this is the clearest striker development of the window so far.
Celtic are back winning after a horror run of defeats under Wilfried Nancy who only last 33 says in the Celtic Park hot seat.
Martin O’Neill has come in for a second time this season and steadied the ship. While performances haven’t been there, the results have come so far. It’s 3 wins out of three for the Irishman and he’s looking to bring in some players to help out this ailing squad as soon as possible.
