It was one of the sagas of the summer and perhaps the deal which tipped Brendan Rodgers over the edge and made him vent in his press conferences about Celtic’s inability to conclude deals.

Brendan Rodgers was desperately looking to strengthen his back line and in particular his right back position. Knowing Lustig’s best days are no doubt behind him, not fancying Gamboa or Ralston the Irishman was keen to bring in a big money right back in the form of Cristiano Piccini.

It was reported at the time the player was in advanced talks with the club and even had a Ross Hall medical booked before the player suddenly got cold feet on the deal and went radio silent.

The plot thickens now, because the player turned up at Valencia, moving from Sporting Club for a £7.2million fee.

With Celtic being drawn against the Spaniards in the Europa League the right back will now play at Celtic Park this season and had the deal gone through it would have been Hoops he would be wearing.

Hopefully, Celtic have their eye on someone this January window and manage to get it over the line.

  1. If you walnt quality in any area then you got to offer enough for them to at least some interest in coming to Celtic Park.
There is too much penny pinching at a time Peter Lawell can draw down a 2Million Bonus.
If that Bonus had gone to getting some our targets then Celtic might have some chance in making some decent signings. HH
