Many eyebrows were realised when Steven Caulker appeared at Dundee this week – signing an 18-month deal with Dens Park Outfit.

But it looks to be a very smart decision by the big defender as he looks to play first team football again and hopefully moves passed some of his problems.

There is no way this deal would have went through before Steven and Brendan Rodgers had spoken about Scottish football and the potential of coming up to Scotland.

It’s our guess that Rodgers has sold Steven on a move up here, away from the prying eyes down south and somewhere the Celtic manager can keep tabs on his progress.

Steven revealed yesterday that Rodgers offered him an opportunity last summer but didn’t feel mentally ready to do the job and come up to Scotland. Now he’s up here Brendan Rodgers has nothing but good things to say about the Englishman; and if performs to the level he’s capable of, a Celtic move won’t be far away.

‘He’s quick, strong and comfortable on the ball.” Rodgers Said

“For Steven, it’s important that he gets playing. He’s a really talented boy who’d had his struggles. If he has them all behind him then he’s a talent – the most important thing is getting him on the field and get him playing

“From a football perspective, if he can pull it all together, I’ve always thought he was a top class player.

“I took him to Swansea on loan when he was 19 and he was absolutely outstanding.”
