Brendan Rodgers could be preparing a tactical surprise this afternoon as Celtic take on Dundee at Dens Park.
With Daizen Maeda ruled out, all eyes will be on how the Celtic boss sets up his attack, and there’s growing intrigue around whether new signing Tounekti could be shifted to the right wing.
Since arriving at Celtic, the Tunisian international has been used almost exclusively on the left. While his pace and direct running have been impressive, it was clear earlier in the season that deploying him there came at a cost. When Tounekti played wide left, Maeda was forced to switch over to the right, a move that blunted the Japanese forward’s usual impact.
Even though Maeda is unavailable against Dundee, this might be the perfect opportunity to flip things. Tounekti spent the international break with Tunisia and was used effectively on the right flank. His ability to stretch play, cut inside onto his stronger foot, and press from the front all make him a natural fit for that side. Rodgers has often spoken about adaptability and balance, and this could be the moment to put those words into action.

Celtic Could Test Tounekti on the Right
The left wing is well stocked. Michel-Ange Balikwisha is pushing hard for his first start since joining the club and did his chances no harm last time out. The Belgian was instrumental in Celtic’s late win over Motherwell two weeks ago, providing the assist for the stoppage-time goal that sent Parkhead into raptures.
Balikwisha is at his best on the left, comfortable making things happen from there. If Rodgers wants a balanced front three, starting Balikwisha on the left and moving Tounekti to the right could make perfect sense. It would offer Celtic width on both sides.
There’s also the bigger picture to consider. With crucial games ahead, including next weekend’s trip to Tynecastle, now is the time for Rodgers to experiment and see which combinations click.
Celtic have often been predictable in wide areas this season, but a reshuffle today could inject fresh energy and variety. If Tounekti starts on the right and Balikwisha takes his place on the left, it could give us something different.
