BRENDAN RODGERS has confirmed he has spoken to Dedryk Boyata about a new contract with the club but could not tell us if he will sign a new deal this summer.

The Irishman said they had a good chat BUT he also hinted that whatever happens, he wants to keep Boyata here for the year. Meaning if the defender doesn’t sign a new deal, he will leave for nothing next summer.

“I had a long chat with him yesterday, he’s in a good place and we want to keep him for as long as we can, that’s important.”

“Whether he decides he wants to move on after this year then that’ll be up to him and his representatives.”

“But my priority is getting him fit and back Into the team again because he’s a top class player and for however long he’s at Celtic we just want to keep him working and give him the best.”

Is Brendan just bluffing in order to get Boyata’s representatives to be more forthcoming in negotiations?

It seems Rodgers is not fretting about the Belgian signing a new deal because he has no intention of letting him go regardless this term.
