It has been confirmed that the SPFL will extend the transfer deadline in Scotland until September 1 due to four important matches falling on the original date [Daily Record].

Pencilled in originally was Wednesday 31 August which is the evening the Hoops travel to Dingwall in the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup.

It would be gravely unfair had this original date remained with it not giving Ange Postecoglou and other managers much scope to get last minute deals done.

Deadline day turned out to be hugely important for the Scottish Champions last year with the arrivals of Giorgos Giakoumakis, Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Postecoglou has placed an emphasis on the market changing and the club remaining active and the latter mentioned could be the prime example of that as many Celtic fans woke up to the good news the following morning to read that the USA international had signed a loan deal with Celtic which turned out to be a vital bit of business.

This extended deadline will mean that the window will slam shut at midnight on Thursday 1 September which will also mean that Scottish clubs will not be given a disadvantage in the market with the English window original set to close 23 hours after Scotland.

Once again that’s been flipped with Scottish clubs given an extra hour at the end of the window over England to get any last minute business done.
