CELTIC have reportedly opened talks with one of the Premier League’s newest clubs in a bid to strengthen their own backline for next season.

Neil Lennon doesn’t have a lot of time between now and the Champions League qualifiers which will start in just over a months time. The Celtic hierarchy will be conscious of time, especially when it comes to repairing the defence.

With that in mind, Celtic are currently in talks with Sheffield Utd over a deal for their right back George Baldock.

Baldock, 26, played a big part in Sheffield Utd’s promotion push last season but according to MailSport, the player is keen on a move to the Scottish Champions after hearing about the interest. The same report claims the Bramall Lane club are open to a selling George with the defender on the last year of his deal.

Celtic have waved goodbye to a whole defence this summer. There’s also no sign of Mikael Lustig signing a new deal so it’s now imperative for the club to get a right back in quickly.

MailSport provides these bullet points on the transfer.

  • Celtic have opened talks over a move for Sheffield United’s George Baldock
  • The right-back made 27 appearances for the Blades during their promotion push
  • The 26-year-old has one year remaining on his contract at Bramall Lane
  • Baldock is understood to be interested and Chris Wilder could let him leave
