MIKAEL LUSTIG has expressed his desire to stay at Celtic beyond his current contract which runs out at the end of the season but will the defender be tempted for a return to his homeland with reports coming from Sweden that AIK are looking to land the defender?

According to FotballDirekt, the Swedish high flyers are interested in bringing Mikael Lustig to the club on a Free Transfer at the end of the season.

Lustig has been at Celtic since 2012 when he signed on a free from Rosenborg and has made 254 appearances for the club, becoming a fan favourite in the process.

However, the Swede has not been able to maintain the same level of form over the past two seasons, and while he can still rise to the occasion, there is a notable difference in his performance.

Celtic’s opponents also look at the right back area as a place to target as their best chance of getting any joy from the bhoys.

With that in mind, Celtic have been actively pursuing a new right back since the summer. Missing out on a number of targets, it’s highly likely Brendan Rodgers is still keen on filling the position longterm.

If that is the case then Lustig has two choices; sign a new deal and become backup to a new right-back or leave and play first team football elsewhere.

It won’t be an easy decision if Celtic do get a new defender.
