A Celtic source has confirmed to RecordSport the club are still in talks with Vinicius Souza over a move to Glasgow this summer but have laid down an ultimatum.

The report claims Celtic have been in talks with Souza and his representatives since the end of last season. Ange Postecoglou and the scouting department are looking to shore up their midfield options and Souza is a top target.

A source close to the negotiations told the newspaper: “The two parties are still talking but there does come a point in time when Celtic need an answer and that moment is fast approaching.

“If Souza – or his agents – aren’t prepared to commit then the club will simply have to look elsewhere because it’s an area of the team that the manager wants to address as a matter of urgency. Souza absolutely fits the bill in terms of what’s required but he’s not the only option.”

The defensive mid currently plays for Lommel who has links to the City group. New scout Mark Lawwell will know all about the Brazilian and will be using all the contacts at his former employers to get a deal done.

The source is correct, Celtic can’t and shouldn’t wait much longer for an answer. If the deal is still hanging in the balance they must look to their list of targets and bring someone else to the club who can perform in the role.

There’s still just under two months of the transfer window to go but the SPFL starts in less than 4 weeks.
