The Scottish transfer window officially opened at midnight and now Celtic have 12 weeks to get their ducks in a row in time for the start of the new SPFL season.

It SHOULD be a busy window for Celtic if they are doing their jobs properly, players leaving the club have already gone into double figures and they must be replaced with quality.

Things Celtic will need in this summer window.

URGENT

The Defence!

Boyata was Celtic’s first choice defender and he’s gone to Germany on a free. Benkovic and the Belgian held down the fort for a lot of the season before Ajer made the breakthrough. With both gone, it’s imperative the club strengthens the back line. Jozo and Ajer made a great pairing in the latter parts of the season but there are no guarantees both will stay fit during the season and history points to both spend some time on the sidelines at some point.

We have needed a new right back for a whole year now and whether Lustig signs a new deal or not that must also be a priority.

Central Midfield

Scott Brown keeps laughing in the face of all those who say he’s a spent force and knows he still has a lot to give. Saying that, Celtic really need to be looking for a replacement for the midfielder. An enforcer in the middle of the park who can help pick up the slack this season. Scott spent some time out injured during the treble treble campaign, if we want the Celtic captain to be in peak condition then he can’t play as many games as he once did.

Help Wanted

Edouard has had an impressive season but he has had his critics, mainly because of the way he has been utilised at times. He’s not a natural number nine and would be far more effective with a partner to play off of. If Bayo isn’t the guy (and I’m not saying he isn’t) then finding someone to compliment Eddy could unlock the key to many more goals this season.

Keep an eye on it

Craig Gordon is not Celtic’s number one anymore and hasn’t played a game for the club in 2019. With one-year left on his current deal, he could look to move on this summer. If the Celtic star decides to move on then I’d like to see Celtic not just go for a backup but go for someone who will push Scott Bain for a place in the side next season. If Gordon stays, that’s exactly what he’ll be doing so we shouldn’t allow Bain to become complacent knowing there’s nobody snapping at his heels.

  1. Surprised you didn’t mention Griffiths as a potential striking partner, the man scored over 40 goals in a season recently
