Celtic return to action today after a well deserved 3-week break. Some players looked jaded at the end of 2017 and hopefully, some sunshine and the break has left players with a full tank of energy.

Today’s cup clash with Brechin is the first game of four in the next ten days for the Hoops. Brendan Rodgers was extremely positive during the week in terms of his teams progress. The manager feels he has a better team than this time last year.

“We’re improving,” he said. “Looking at the team out in Dubai last week, I was much happier with where we are in this moment than where we were last year.

“There is a much clearer way in which we work now. So that’s improvement and development for me.

“I know we’re better. Sometimes you may not have the points to show it. It’s all about perception and my perception as a coach is that the team is developing really well.

“Now we’re looking to really attack the second part of the season and with a lot fewer games to play we’re hoping to get back to the intensity that we have played most of our games with.”

Injury wise Celtic will be without new signing Marvin Compper after he picked up a calf strain while in Dubai. Celtic are still missing Jonny Hayes, Rogic, Anthony Ralston and Paddy Roberts. With games against Partick, Hibs and Hearts all coming up it is suspected that Rodgers will field some fringe players today. Kick off is at 3pm from Celtic Park.
