It was the surprise package of deadline day when Celtic finally managed to snag Cameron Carter-Vickers from Spurs on a season long loan. After the deal had been done, a sub-plot emerged online that’s captured the imagination of the Celtic support.
Catholic Utd posted under Celtic’s confirmation of Carter-Vickers signing – revealing he was destined to play for the Hoops after the youngster played for Catholic Utd who have adopted the Hoops since the late 60s.
So pleased to see @cameroncv2 move from @SpursOfficial to @CelticFC tonight. A youth player for @CatholicUtdFC up until 2009 when he joined Tottenham.

Since then, Celtic fans and Catholic Utd have been trading follows online with the club’s online presence exploding.
The English club have been running since the 50s and as the story goes, a custodian of Catholic Utd, Glen Foy, reached out to Celtic about adopting their colours to stand out from the crowd. After two weeks, a parcel came in the post for Mr Foy – it was a brand new Celtic kit from Bob Kelly. The club then adopted the green and white Hoops, debuting them in 1968 and have played with them ever since.
The historical connection and the green and white hoops have brought the English club and Celtic fans together with a little help from Cameron Carter-Vickers.
We personally know Celtic fans who have already purchased merchandise from their shop and know many others have or plan to do so.
Catholic Utd put out a statement on Friday morning thanking the Celtic fans for their support – Club Statement. The Chairman of the club, James Paviour branded the past 48 hours ‘truly remarkable’.
This is a great story and one that’s been in the makings for a long time. Catholic Utd have made some new fans for life.
