GIORGOS GIAKOUMAKIS had a penalty claim on Tuesday night as his side trailed 1-0 to RB Leipzig.

James Forrest had swung a brilliant ball into the box, and Giakouamkis was waiting to pounce at the back post. As he made his move to meet the ball, the Greek striker’s arm was pulled back by a Leipzig defender.

VAR didn’t get involved and review the decision made by the on-field officials, despite Giakoumakis’ protest.

With the game at 1-0, this could’ve changed the full game and given Celtic the chance to draw back level and even push on to win the game.

Gordon Strachan believes it was a penalty. As quoted by The Sun, he said;

“Yep, I do think when you’re going in like that and someone grabs you and swings you it does put you off. There’s no doubt about it.

“He’s coming in, he’s a big strong boy, but when you’re off balance it’s amazing what the slightest thing can do.

“There’s two hands there, it’s two hands.

“It’s different if he puts it just for a second and you release him again but he’s still holding him as he’s trying to head it.

“So I’d have been looking for a penalty.”

Celtic weren’t clinical enough on Tuesday; that’s why the Champions League dream is over. It was an optimistic dream that, even until the 70th minute last night, many fans believed could happen.

The side will dust themselves down and concentrate on the league and cup, with matches to be played before Celtic hosts Shakhtar as they look for a win to keep their Europa League dream alive.
