English Championship club Reading have written to all Championship clubs to say they will charge away fans £20 or less for tickets to their stadium, if they committed to a reciprocal arrangement [Anthony Joseph].

This is a positive step in the right direction and it is refreshing to see a club think about the impact which current issues such as the cost of living crisis and other factors are having on people’s lives.

The ‘Twenty’s Plenty’ campaign will be familiar to Celtic supporters as it was highlighted by the supporters group Bhoys who unveiled a number of terrific banners showing the rising costs of ticket prices.

After supporters returned to stadiums after Covid, it was a chance to put things right and to try and encourage fans to get along to support their team.

For clubs who tend to have low turnouts at their home grounds, they should have been looking to give people and incentive to get back to the football but as usual nothing substantial came of it.

People are struggling up and down the UK at this point in time and for many, going to the football is an escape to allow for people to get away from all their troubles and relax.

For Celtic fans, allocations are being cut and prices are rising. It would be fantastic if the club themselves could endorse some sort of campaign similar to Reading to change things.
