There has been a lot of speculation over the summer about where Virgil van Dijk will be playing next season. It is widely accepted that the player would prefer a move to the Premiership but with two years still left on his current deal Celtic can afford to ask for top dollar and play the waiting game.

This week seen him linked with Southampton, a route two top Celts have made in the past few years – Former Celts Victor Wanyama & Fraser Forster both play at St Mary’s. Reports suggested that he was subject of a £7million bid. This report was denied by Celtic, saying no bids had been made for their star defender.

However the plot would now thicken as in the last couple of days Virgil has used his twitter account to follow Victor Wanyama and Graziano Pelle – both Southampton players. He also has followed the Barclays Premiership official twitter account.

Is he trying to tell us something?

Celtic are in the play-offs for the Champions League group stages and the club have always been adamant that they would not sell the player at all until they knew their European fate. Are the ducks being lined up early so the player can move on quickly after the play-offs?

Many Celtic fans believe Virgil might want to stay if Celtic get Champions League football but it is still our belief that he will move on regardless of Celtic’s European status.
