We have been asked by a decent number of regular readers about the state of play when it comes to the return leg against Midtjylland next week.

The game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 28, with a 18:45 kick-off.

One of the questions we’ve been repeatedly asked is about the availability of two of our new signings; Kyogo Furuhashi and Carl Starfelt.

Unfortunately, both players are ineligible for the game. UEFA lock in the squad for every round of the competition before the first leg kicks off. Both players are also currently isolating after entering the UK.

Both players will be available for our next European game which will either be the next round of the Champions League against PSV or Galatasaray or in the Europa League against Jablonec.

Another important thing to remember is the away goal rule is no longer in play. Both teams need to go for the win on the night. The Danish side takes no advantage from scoring at Celtic Park and vice versa if the Hoops score in Denmark.

It’s all to play for in the second leg but we have to be more clinical if we want to progress.

Celtic’s xG [Expected goals] stats in the first leg was 2.93 to Midtjylland’s 0.21 (A 2.72 differential). [Bhoys Analytics] These kinds of stats usually point to a comfortable win, it proves the importance of finishing our chances when they come.
