UEFA have announced changes to next seasons Champions League qualifiers and they will have huge ramifications for Celtic.

Every qualifier apart from the play-off will be a one off tie and whether you’re home or away will be luck of the draw unless UEFA allow seeded teams to be at home.

This means THREE of Celtic qualifiers will be a one-off winner takes all one leg tie.

If they manage to get to the play-off round it will go to home and away.

Here are the qualifier dates set out by UEFA this afternoon:

First qualifying round: 18/19 August

Second qualifying round: 25/26 August

Third qualifying round: 15/16 September

Play-offs: 22/23 and 29/30 September

These qualifiers would take place after the start of the SPFL season as oppose to before them like normally happens. Celtic could be in a better place to tackle these fixtures. However, if you remember the horror of Lincoln Red Imps – under this scenario, Celtic would have gone out.

  1. But when you got a cup tie one off game in your head then you go for it none stop can help us big time but we want 10 in a row first and foremost should be a great watch with all the one off games and cup ties bring in some more new faces seasoned pros are a must now…

  2. Well said Jackie, ten in a row will be the most important aim for the season and not champions league, although would be nice to prove we can compete with the elite of Europe. Just imagine the meltdown at ipox and their friends in the biased media when they realise we have set a record they will never match HAIL HAIL.
