UEFA are considering moving some Champions League matches outside of the continent and will discuss the matter in a meeting in Croatia. [Scottish Daily Express]

So, in the future, Celtic could play some of their Champions League matches in counties hours away from the teams involved in the fixture.

It’s a ridiculous idea, and if it were up to most football fans, it would be a non-starter. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if UEFA were to push through this decision. With the way the game’s going and becoming money centred; it feels almost inevitable.

The PSG president, who also chairs the European Club Association, backs the proposed idea – quite worrying.

So, instead of making our way to Paradise to watch Celtic host Real Madrid, we could be boarding a plane to fly to the middle east or the United States to watch our beloved team play in a European competition.

It punishes the fans who have followed their club for years, with tickets likely to be scarce and pricey, never mind the additional travel costs.

With Celtic a big name in football, it would mean quite a few games would be moved away from Parkhead. The proposed plans would see ‘meaningful’ games moved.

Fans will be hoping the proposed plan doesn’t go ahead, but with the greed that has entered football in recent years, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if UEFA were to announce a plan soon. Hopefully, fans can come together, as they did for the proposed Super League, and show their disapproval if the worst comes to the worst.

  1. Can’t see Israeli teams playing in the Middle East!

If there’s an extra fortune in it then Celtic will be on board.

The Champions League structure is changing from 2024 into one big league where teams play 10 games each, so maybe if they play 4 home, 4 away, then 2 at neutral venues it might be okay?
