Red Star Belgrade chief executive, Zvezdan Terzic has told SunSport he believes UEFA will now not stand in the way of any league outside the top five who want to call their season in the near future.

Terzic believes the top leagues who are so reliant on TV money will cling to the very end before calling time on their current season.

However, for the smaller nations, it’s vitally important they get their ducks in a row over the next month or two and having the league wrapped up in anticipation of next season, whenever that might be, is the priority.

“There are three scenarios available to leagues like ours. The first is to hope we can eventually continue the season, the second is to declare it null and void and the third is to do what Scotland and Belgium have done and end the season now.

“We have been in constant contact with UEFA. Scotland and Belgium have argued their case with sound reason and I know UEFA will now accept it.

“Bigger leagues will insist on finishing their championships, but that is because their income is hugely reliant on TV money.

“Here, we need to align with the measures taken by Serbian FA and Serbian Government. The lack of available dates is not our fault.

“I wish we could be called the champions in the normal way, but it is not up to us.”

It’s not ideal for anyone because Celtic were swaggering towards the title when the shutdown came into force. They had just won 5-0 against St Mirren while their second placed foes struggled to a 2-1 win thanks to a deflected goal.

It’s a shame it looks like it has to end this way but UEFA giving leagues the green light is the correct thing to do.

  1. The number Nine is fast approching. It doesn’t come around this way that often. Lets all celebrate. The number Ten is almost on its way. As its still at the terminus. Although on its way there it passed the sevco bus, it was a shell of its former self, on fire and right in its path.
