Celtic FC and the CELTIC FC Foundation have just this morning announced that their Football for Good Fund is almost at £300,000. The fund is set up to help the most vulnerable in society during the COVID-19 crisis.

The foundation is working closely with over 35 organisations who are supporting vulnerable children, families and the homeless. The club says they are also working alongside NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Cathedral House to help support frontline NHS staff across all roles and wards every day.

Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, said:

“Everyone at Celtic Football Club and Celtic FC Foundation is aware of how the COVID-19 crisis is impacting on our communities. Therefore, it is vital that we continue to support the most vulnerable in our society during this period. The Football for Good Fund will provide a lifeline for so many, at an extremely difficult time, once again honouring the great charitable ambitions of the club’s founders.”

Celtic like every other club will have huge financial implications from the loss of revenue with the COVID-19 lockdown. It is impossible to put a number on the amount of income the club will lose during this pandemic which makes the effort of the Football For Good fund that bit more special.

All staff at the club from the top down earlier this month agreed to take wage cuts and how long this will go on for is anybody’s guess but it is great to see the club carry on the traditions of its origins.
