BRENDAN RODGERS has told Eboue Kouassi he will be starting in Germany tonight.
The midfielder has not started a match for Celtic since the bhoys were beaten by Hearts at the start of the season and has had very little game time since his move in general.
Brendan Rodgers has hit back at the reports branding Kouassi a failure at the club. The Irishman believes you cannot call the player a failure if he hasn’t had the proper chance to impress.
Kouassi came in as a long-term replacement for Brown but the Celtic manager says his captain has been that good and reliable that Kouassi has not been able to get a look in.
The Ivory Coast man came in on late in the Hibernian game at the weekend and had a little bit of a run out before tonight’s game at least.
Speaking about the situation – Rodgers was clear Kouassi could play his way into a permanent position in his squad given the chance.
“Broony’s been a brilliant captain for me. It’s unfortunate he’s picked up this injury.
“But it’s a great moment for people to step out of the shadows and show they can play.
“Broony’s level of performance for two and a bit years for me has been exceptional.
“It’s limited the number of opportunities for the likes of Eboue Kouassi.
“But he’ll get a chance to come in now. He’s shown at times when he’s come in and played.
“Eboue’s a good player. He shows me in training every day that he’s a very good player. But he’s been limited in his chances.
“I see some reports on him being a failure and all that. That’s unfair.
“The boy’s not had a chance. Why? Because the Scotland captain has been amazing in my time.”
