This is not Neil Lennon’s first rodeo, he’s been here before, he knows Celtic fans and players are all on cloud nine today. That is why the Celtic boss is looking to get everyone back down to earth before the Celts travel to Pittodrie on Sunday.

Celtic are joint top of the league and there can be no room for any European hangovers. Lennon will know what the Hoops achieved last night will go down as one of the great European nights at Paradise. He did, after all, manage Celtic to a 2-1 win over Barcelona, a YouTube clip every Celtic fan still plays when they need a pick-me-up.

The Celtic manager might also have the shock defeat at Livingston only weeks ago still fresh in his mind. In a similar fashion, Celtic blew CFR Cluj away on a Thursday and then got the wind knocked out of their sails by Livingston on the Sunday.

The manager while speaking with Sky Sports also brings some perspective to last nights brilliant result.

He said: “What we have done is made a great start to the group and I can’t ask any more than maximum points at home and picking up a point away from home.

“There is no guarantee of us picking up another point in the group so we have to calm down. We have enjoyed the night. It was a titanic game and one that we want to bring to Celtic Park on a regular basis but we have to regroup now and we have a big game on Sunday to concentrate on.”

The manager would, of course, like it if himself and his players could revel a bit more in the buzz around Celtic Park, the Lurgan man said he only allowed himself a few hours of celebration.

“It can be a bit unfair that you don’t get more time to lap it up because it was a great night and a titanic game. It was a proper European team, proper European atmosphere, proper European game.”

While Lennon, his backroom staff and all his players probably do need to get back down to earth, fans have no such obligation.
